40th anniversary of Bangladesh-US diplomatic relations celebrated in Washington, DC

 USA NEWS :  Bilateral relations between Bangladeshand the USA are mutually beneficial and the two countries should work together to further strengthen the relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations,Bangladesh’s relations with the USA have been excellent and over the years these relations have strengthened in depth and dimensions. This was said by Bangladesh Ambassador to USA and State Minister Akramul Qader. Ambassador Qader was speaking Wednesday evening at the University Club inWashington,DC at a reception hosted to mark the 40 years of Bangladesh-US diplomatic relations. He said that Bangladesh’s friends in the USA have been steadfast in extending support to uphold democracy. In this regard, the Bangladesh Ambassador referred to the laudable role played by the US Congress in restoring democracy during the period 2006 through 2008. Ambassador Qader urged the Congress to take initiative to remove tariffs on the ready-made garment products coming from Bangladeshto the USA. He reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to continue the work to advance the bilateral relations.

Geoffrey R. Pyatt, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Central andSouth Asiain the US State Department represented the US Government. Speaking on the occasion,  Pyatt, said that the US takes great pride in what has been achieved in the course of 40 years. He also said that the Government has great hope for the relations. The US Acting Assistant Secretary described Bangladeshas a secular, democratic and Muslim majority country. Referring toBangladesh’s war ofIndependence, Pyatt paid special homage to late Senator Edward Kennedy and who lobbied for the cause of Bangladesh independence. He also recalled of Kennedy’s visit to Dhakaimmediately after the independence.

Chief of Protocol Ambassador Capricia Penavic Marshall, High US government officials, diplomats, members of the Think Tank, Congressional Staffers, businessmen, journalists and Bangladeshi nationals and members of Bangladesh Diaspora attended the reception. To mark the 40^th anniversary of Bangladesh-US diplomatic relations, Bangladesh Embassy in Washington,DC has chalked out elaborate programs including symposium, painting exhibition screening of film and music performances.
