Bangladesh Embassy “Open House” draws huge enthusiastic crowd

USA NEWS : The day-long ‘Open House’ programme of Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC 5  May  drew a large number of enthusiasts. Visitors from all over USA and tourists from other countries visited the open house programme which was organized in collaboration with Cultural Tourism DC, a Washington-based non-profit organization  aimed at showcasing cultural diversity through holding of such events in coordination with the embassies in Washington DC. This is the fifth consecutive year that this particular cultural programme has been organized in the Bangabandhu auditorium of the embassy. The department of state proclaimed the event as International Cultural Awareness month in honour of Cultural Tourism DC’s Passport DC in May, 2011. Md Jashim uddin, Charged ‘Affairs, a.i. welcomed the guests in the embassy.

The day’s programme included display ofBangladesh’ handicrafts and exportable goods and cultural programme performed by Bangladeshi expatriate artists. This year’s theme for the program was showcasing women in arts. The Embassy showcased a talented Sitarist  Alif Laila. The embassy also availed the opportunity of displaying Bangladesh’s history, art and achievements of the present democratic government in different fields such as women empowerment and Bangladesh’s contribution to peacekeeping under the UN. The guests enjoyed traditional Bangladeshi cuisine. More than three thousand people visited the Embassy to attend the open house programe.
