USANewsOnline.Com: Over ten splendid days (October 17–26, 2025), a magnificent wedding celebration took place in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Houston, Texas, for Bangladeshi-American citizens Dr. Shaina Sarwar, PharmD, and Dr. Brotee Sadeed Rahman, MD. Events such as hena night, groom’s procession, turmeric ceremony, wedding vows (nikah), traditional rituals, and reception were held at the Chateau Golf & Country Club and the Sarwar family residence by the golf course. In Houston’s upscale Woodlands area, festivities including the bride’s welcome, musical evening, bridal feast, traditional Bengali lungi-gamcha color play, walima (reception), and farewell banquet were hosted at the Rahman family’s palatial estate, the Kevin Brady Center, and the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
More than 1,500 guests attended the ten-day celebration, with over 700 guests filling the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency for the walima alone. The Grand Ballroom of the Chateau Golf & Country Club also overflowed with joy and excitement. Shaina’s cousin-in-law, Soheni Tanzeema, an executive at a French multinational company, coordinated the New Orleans events, while Brotee’s only sibling, Shreya Rahman, a stunning fourth-year MD student at Baylor College of Medicine, emceed the Houston festivities. Over 150 guests traveled from abroad, including Bangladesh, Canada, the UK, Australia, and other countries. The union of two affluent, highly educated, and professionally accomplished Bangladeshi-American families brought immense joy to the diaspora community. Their gracious hospitality left a lasting impression.
Shaina Sarwar: A Portrait of Grace and Genius
Raised in the ambiance of a golf and country club since age two, Shaina is a woman of enviable talent. She graduated cum laude with a BSc from Tulane University and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree cum laude from Xavier University, passing the pharmacy board on her first attempt. Her brilliance extends beyond academics into leadership, music, literature, sports, and humanitarian service. In high school, she served as class president from grades 8 to 12, was crowned prom queen, was a member of the homecoming court, performed in Bharatanatyam dance recitals, played varsity soccer and basketball, wrote a novel, and won a gold medal as a pianist. At Tulane, she was a member of Psi Chi (International Honor Society in Psychology). At Xavier, she served as vice president of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and chaired professional development for the Pharmacy Students Association. She was also a member of the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society. Shaina has traveled with her family to twenty-eight countries in Europe, five in Asia, three in North America, two in South America, and one in Africa.
Brotee Sadeed Rahman: A Renaissance Healer
Brotee is a successful medical practitioner in Houston. He earned his BA from the University of Texas at Austin and his MD from St. George’s University, followed by a residency in internal medicine at the University of Houston. His accolades include being a college scholar, member of the Japanese National Honor Society, distinguished outpatient faculty advisor, vice president of the Resident Advisory Committee, and adjunct faculty at the University of Houston. His research, published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, discusses a rare case of acute kidney injury (AKI) linked to the chemotherapy drug pemetrexed, contributing to clinical awareness and caution. Brotee is a multilingual polymath fluent in English, Bengali, Spanish, and Japanese, skilled in rap and Korean BTS music, and a passionate global traveler. Despite his wealth and status, like Shaina, he remains humble and grounded.
The Sarwar Family: A Legacy of Excellence
Shaina was born into a refined, affluent, and highly educated Bangladeshi-American family. Her father, Dr. Mostofa Sarwar, PhD, is a scientist, poet, columnist, and international affairs TV analyst. He is an emeritus professor, former vice chancellor, provost, dean, honors program director, and commissioner of the Regional Transit Authority. Her mother, Dr. Syeda Sarwar, MD, is a physician at the VA Hospital and is a former assistant professor at LSU Medical School. Her research has been published in prestigious journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, earning her a bronze medal from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 1996. Together, they own three real estate companies with multiple strip malls. Shaina’s two brothers are Harvard graduates with magna cum laude honors. Her elder brother, Turhan Sarwar, JD, is a prominent litigation attorney (intellectual property) in Boston, and his wife, Dr. Kathleen Lee Sarwar, MD (Johns Hopkins), is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Her younger brother, Arush Sarwar, BA (Harvard), is a hedge fund expert on Wall Street, and his wife, Manesha Sarwar, MA (Columbia), is a partner and EVP at another hedge fund.
The Rahman Family: A Cultural and Medical Powerhouse
Brotee’s family is a cultured, educated, and wealthy household in Houston, with nearly all relatives in the medical profession. His father, Dr. Atiar Rahman Boni, MD, PhD, is a renowned cardiologist and faculty member, likened to a modern-day Arjuna from the Mahabharata. During the bride’s welcome, Shaina was received by elegant women from Bangladesh, Canada, Australia, the UK, and the US, dressed in traditional Banarasi saris, stepping out of Brotee’s Porsche to the background music of Dr. Atiar Boni’s soulful rendition of “Eso Amar Ghore.” The scene felt like a rainbow of enchantment had touched every flower, tree, and sculpture of the estate. Brotee’s mother, Dr. Afroza Rahman Mini, MD, is a celebrated pediatrician in Houston, known for spreading joy wherever she goes. His sister, Shreya, graduated with high honors from Duke University and is now a final-year medical student at Baylor. His maternal uncle, Dr. Monowar Hossain, conducts research at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Research Hospital, and his paternal uncle, Dr. Asad Zaman, MD, is a nephrologist in Dallas.
A Shared Academic Heritage Rooted in Jessore
Interestingly, four members of these high-profile families share academic accolades from the Jessore Board. Mostofa Sarwar of Patuakhali ranked second in SSC (science group) and first in HSC. A decade later, Brotee’s uncle, Monowar Hossain, ranked fifth in SSC and second in HSC. Twelve years after Sarwar, Brotee’s father, Atiar, ranked first in SSC and fourth in HSC, while Brotee’s mother, Mini, ranked first among girls in HSC.
