USANewsOnline.Com Desk, New York : The Bangladeshi American Police Association (BAPA) proudly congratulates Lieutenant Commander, Detective Squad (LCD) Syed Shumon, Founding President of BAPA, on his well-deserved promotion to the rank of Captain in the New York City Police Department.
This remarkable achievement is a true testament to Captain Shumon Syed’s hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public service. BAPA is extremely proud to celebrate this important milestone and outstanding accomplishment.
Captain Shumon Syed joined the NYPD in 1999. After graduating from the Police Academy, he was assigned to the 114th Precinct, where he served as a patrol officer on all tours and later as a Domestic Violence Officer.

In 2005, he was transferred to the NYPD Intelligence Division, and in 2008, he was recognized as a Detective Investigator. He was subsequently promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Police Service Area 9, where he supervised multiple squads.
Due to his extensive experience and exemplary work in the Intelligence Division, he was transferred back to that division in 2010. In 2020, he was promoted to Lieutenant and later assigned to Transit District 20, covering the western area of Queens.
In August 2025, he was transferred to the Internal Affairs Bureau, where he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander of the Detective Squad.
On Friday, January 30, 2026, he achieved another significant milestone with his promotion to Captain of Police.
