WORKING FAMILIES PARTY ENDORSES COSTA CONSTANTINIDES FOR CITY COUNCIL

New York : The Working Families Party (WFP) today announced its endorsement of Costa Constantinides for the New York City Council, District 22, which represents Astoria, and parts of Long Island City and Woodside.

This early endorsement by the Working Families Party for the City Council election, which will take place next year, is a significant sign of the strength of Costa Constantinides’ campaign.

Costa Constantinides is a grassroots community organizer, attorney, progressive political leader, husband and father who has lived in the Astoria section of New York City his whole life. In 2009, Costa was elected as the Democratic District Leader for the 36th Assembly District.

Costa Constantinides has a long history of successful advocating for his community. Costa has worked within the community to organize food drives, save the Grand Avenue Post Office, fight for traffic safety, and works with local elected officials to ensure Astoria received its fair share of funding for various programs. He also serves as a board member of the United Community Civic Association (UCCA).

Costa currently serves as a Deputy Chief of Staff in the New York City Council and has been instrumental in formulating key legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to protect our wetlands, and to improve the water quality of our drinking supply. As the past President of the Queens County Young Democrats, he was committed to expanding the voter participation of emerging communities. The Queens County Young Democrats worked on campaigns throughout the borough of Queens and New York State over the past 3 years, registering young voters and involving them in the democratic process.
