MAF MISBAH UDDIN was re-elected for a fourth term as Treasurer of District Council 37, AFSCME, AFL-CIO!

USANEWS ONLINE : Maf Misbah Uddin was re-elected, unanimously and unopposed to a fourth three-year term as Treasurer of District Council 37, the largest municipal employee union in the United States of America representing 120,000 members and 60,000 retirees, at a meeting of the DC 37 Delegates on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.

You may already know, in July, Mr. Uddin was also re-elected for a fifth three-year term to the Presidency of Local 1407 – Accountants, Statisticians and Actuaries of the City of New York – by more than a 4 to 1 margin.  And it is important to mention here that, Mr. Uddin is the only Bangladeshi to lead a municipal union as President in America ever.

“I am humbled and honored to be re-elected Treasurer of DC 37, AFSCME”, Mr. Uddin said. “The Members have placed a great deal of trust in me and I pledge to continue to fight to protect the interests of all our members.”

Mr. Uddin, who is also the Founder and President of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) said that his re-election as Treasurer will allow him to continue to help the labor movement flourish and grow within the nation and will also help ASAAL prosper while making the community more powerful in the future.

“The labor movement is under attack all across the nation. Some elected officials are striving to take away the good union benefits that protect our working families and keep America strong at home and abroad. As the Treasurer of DC 37 and the President of ASAAL I am privileged to have a platform of unity and strength that will keep the labor movement strong going forward.”
