Ambassador Akramul Qader attends BDI conference at Berkeley
USANEWSONLINE : Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mr. Akramul Qader attended the Bangladesh Development Initiative (BDI) conference held at the University of California, Berkeley from February 23-24. The conference, organized for the third time by BDI, had events engaging scholars, journalists, senior officials and Bangladeshi professionals based in the Silicon valley.
Among the panel experts who took part in the session were: Professor Rehman Sobhan, who also received BDI’s lifetime achievement award this year, Dr. David Lewis, a professor of social policy at the London School of Economics, Mr. Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star, Mr. Habibullah N Karim, CEO of Technohaven, a member of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Digital Bangladesh, Mr. Dan Mozena, US Ambassador in Bangladesh. The objective of the conference was to exchange ideas on how the members of Bangladesh Diaspora can contribute more to the development of Bangladesh as it envisages to become a middle income nation by the year 2021. The organizers expect to place a set of policy recommendations coming out of the discussions to senior level policy makers in Bangladesh.
Ambassador Qader, while thanking the organizers for their timely initiative assured the Bangladesh embassy’s full support in implanting ideas and projects highlighted at the sessions. He also requested the organizers to produce a resolution or sector specific policy memo so that those could be concretely brought before the relevant implementing agencies of Bangladesh government.
