Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC celebrates ‘Pahela Boishakh’

UsaNewsOnline : Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC April 14, 2013 organized a cultural program to celebrate Bengali New Year-1420
at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the Embassy. The Embassy officials, their family members and leading cultural activists of Bangladesh origin based in the greater Washington DC area took part in the cultural evening.  The cultural programme included chorus performance of the traditional year beginner `eso hey boishakh’ eso eso, country and patriotic songs by members of the Bangladesh Embassy family and expatriate Bangladesh community.

Welcoming `Bangla Nabo Barsho-1420’ Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Akramul Qader exchanged new year’s greetings saying `Shuvo Nabobarsha’ with the guests.  In his speech, Mr. Qader expressed his hope that the new year would bring in renewed hope and prosperity in the lives of all members of Bangladesh Diaspora living in the USA and the countries around and to their near and dear ones in Bangladesh. Terming ‘Pahela Boishakh’ as the most passionately marked day of Bengali Calendar, he said this moment harbingers new frontiers of opportunities and accomplishments in our respective lives. Ambassador Qader also hoped that the ‘Pahela Boishakh’ celebration at this Embassy and in other places in the USA would expose the new generation of Bangladeshis to the rich cultural aspects in our nation. He also passionately appealed  to Bangladesh Diaspora to help retain a secular democratic and non communal character of Bangladesh and hoped that defeated forces of 1971 will never be able to raise their monstrous heads. 

Mrs. Rifat Sultana Akram, wife of Ambassador Akramul Qader, thanked the Embassy Officials and Employees, all Artists  and performers as well as members of the Bangladeshi Community who spontaneously participated the Embassy’s ‘Pahela Boishakh’ programme and made it a success. Mrs. Akram also wished a happy new Bengali Year of 1420 to all.

A large number of Bangladesh Diaspora, businessmen, journalists and foreign nationals were present on the occasion.
