Bangladesh Embassy “Open House” draws huge enthusiastic crowd

UsaNewsOnline.com : The day-long ‘Open House’ program of Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC 4 May drew a large number of enthusiasts. Visitors from all over the USA and tourists from other countries visited the open house program which was organized in collaboration with Cultural Tourism DC, a Washington-based non-profit organization aimed at showcasing cultural diversity through holding of such events in coordination with the embassies in Washington DC. This is the sixth consecutive year that this particular cultural program has been organized in the Bangabandhu auditorium of the embassy.

The US Department of State proclaimed the event as International Cultural Awareness month in honour of Cultural Tourism DC’s Passport DC in May. Mr. Akramul Qader, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA and his wife Rifat Sultana Akram and all officers of the Embassy welcomed the guests.

The day’s program included display of Bangladesh’ handicrafts and exportable goods and cultural program performed by `Dhrupad’ , a Bangladeshi cultural organization and expatriate artists. A solo painting exhibition of Professor Matlub Ali, `Titled In Quest of Identity’ was also displayed in the Open House Program. This exhibition was aimed at showcasing Bangladeshi Paintings to the outside world. The Paintings both in abstract and materialistic forms, speak of the everyday social transformation taking place in Bangladesh and Bangladesh’s fascinating journey towards a postmodern 21^st century. The Embassy also availed the opportunity of displaying Bangladesh’s history and achievements of the present democratic government in different fields such as women empowerment and Bangladesh’s contribution to peacekeeping under the UN. The guests enjoyed traditional Bangladeshi cuisine. More than three thousand people visited the Embassy at this open house program.
