Bangladesh Minister for food and Disaster Management Dr. Abdur Razzak attends PDNA and GFDRR meetings in Washington
Washington, October 8 : Bangladesh Food and Disaster management minister Dr. Abdur Razzak has laid stress on food security to the least developed countries like Bangladesh after natural calamities.
The Minister called upon the world leaders and concerned aid agencies of world Bank and United Nations to allocate their help to the people affected by the natural calamities on the basis of head-wise victim during their rehabilitation programmes aimed at returning their normal life and also sought of their total support for the least developed countries especially Bangladesh.
Dr. Razzak had hectic meetings w ith the Post Disaster needs Assessment (PDNA) and Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and climate change from October 5-8 at Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC.
The food and Disaster minister spoke at the seminar on PDNA organized by the GFDRR at the hotel on October 5 where all development partners and organizations in cooperation of the World Bank attended the seminar and meetings. All the participants in the meetings expressed satisfaction for taking appropriate steps in facing the natural calamities in Bangladesh .He aLso emphasized the need for taking appropriate measures during the natural disasters in different places of the world including Bangladesh. Natural disaster like flood, drought, tidal bore and earth quake, are being faced by the people of different countries of the world including Bangladesh frequently.
Dr. Abdur Razzak unveiled the book on’ Climate Change Risks and Food Security’ under auspices of the World Bank here on October 6. In his hectic programmes here the minister placed a presentation on’ A priority country Perspective: Bangladesh’ at the same venue. He also discussed the different nature of calamities, management, challenges and the role of GFDRR in the context of Bangladesh climate Change.
Besides World Bank, different organizations of the United Nations and representative of USA ,UK, Australia, EC, Sweden ,Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, and Japan attended the meetings.
The food minister also attended a dinner hosted by Indian finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee at I.F.M Office and discussed the matters of interest on October 7 during the occasion.
Dr. Razzak also called on Mr Mark Aboo, director of Global Security Council on Food Security at the latter’s office. Mr Aboo assured the minister of all necessary help and cooperation to be extended to meet the Bangladesh Food Security risks.
