Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC observes National Mourning Day

UsaNewsOnline.com : Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC observed the National Mourning Day 15 August marking the 38^th  martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity.The day began with the hoisting of the National Flag at half-mast on the mission premises and also at the Bangladesh House. On the occasion, the embassy organized a discussion session and Doa Mahfil at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the Embassy  which was attended by a large number of participants including  representative from  community leaders, media,  professional groups, and embassy officials.   Messages of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read out. A documentary film featuring the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was screened on the occasion.

In the discussion session, the speakers highlighted the glorious life and works of the Father of the Nation. They also called upon the Bangladeshi expatriates to work together to build a `Sonar  Bangla’  dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  Anis Ahmed, broadcast journalist of Voice of America presented a paper on the linguistic aspects of the historic 7^th March speech of Bangabandhu. He said that both in tone and texture, it was an extraordinary  speech where Bangabandhu prepared his millions of followers for the upcoming war of independence.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Akramul Qader in his speech termed Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman as a larger than life persona. He offered a narrative of Bangabandhu’s journey from the solitary confinements of Pakistan to the newly independent Bangladesh in January 1972. Citing excerpts from Bangabandhu’s speech in Delhi Airport, he said that Bangabandhu demonstrated the highest level of political acumen and diplomatic wisdom only days after he stepped in the world politics as the President of an independent country. In his interactions with media, he ( Bangabandhu) showed remarkable restraint and balance,  hallmark of a quintessential politician and diplomat, Ambassador Qader added.  He said that the core constituent of Bangabandhu’s foreign policy was to protect and promote national interest and placing the newly independent country into a respectful position in the comity of nations. This has earned Bangabandhu huge respect in the global arena, Ambassador Qader concluded.
