SAMHATI hosts fund-raising Dinner for needy women & children in Bangladesh

UsaNewsOnline, 5 October, SAMHATI – a Washington-based humanitarian organization of expatriate Bangladeshi women, hosted its annual Benefit Dinner Saturday at the Bangladesh Embassy raising donation to help needy women and children in remote villages of Bangladesh.
Established in 1984 by some extraordinary Bangladeshi ladies, the SAMHATI is currently operating various projects including shrimp farming, climate adaptation activities, health center at Katakhali in southern region, Natore and Rangpur to empower women for better life. The organization also provides computer training to villagers and scholarships to poor school children.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziaudidin was the chief guest while Dr. Nina Ahmad, Commissioner, President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Asian pacific Islanders was the keynote speaker at the function.
A good number of philanthropist men and women including foreigners attended the fund-raising dinner at the Bangabandhu Auditorium and donated the organization for carrying forward its humanitarian work.
Anita Jahan Bose, member of the board of advisors of SAMHATI, made a presentation of their activities in rural Bangladesh while journalist Roquia Haider, one of the directors of the organization, moderated the discussion part.
Dhroopad, a DC-based cultural group, presented dances portraying the history of independence of Bangladesh enthralling the audience.
Ambassador Ziauddin, in his remarks, praised the organizers for the noble initiatives including establishment of Rokeya Sadan, the first rehabilitation center for women in Bangladesh. He said living far away from their home of origin, they feel strongly to help their deprived sisters back home. ‘They are great spirits deserving our respect,’ the Ambassador said.
In this context, Ambassador Ziauddin said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is continuing her crusade for improving socio-economic condition of women in Bangladesh. He said Prime Minister Hasina is the voice of 600 million women in South Asia and also she is the only woman leader of 57-member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). She was invited by British Prime Minister David Cameron to deliver keynote speech at the first ever Girl Summit in London in July 2014.
The Bangladesh Ambassador hoped SAMHATI would continue its praiseworthy work and grow, spreading its reach all across the USA.
