Bangladeshi Maf Uddin was re-elected Treasurer for the 5th term of the largest Municipal union in USA

UsaNewsOnline.com : Maf Misbah Uddin was re-elected unopposed to a fifth three-year term as Treasurer of District Council 37 of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the largest municipal employee union in the United States of America representing 121,000 members and 60,000 retirees, at a meeting of the DC 37 Delegates on Tuesday, November 24, 2015.

“I am humbled by the victory and honored to remain unopposed in my union which is consists of 52 Local unions. Mr. Uddin said. “The Members have trusted me from the bottom of their heart and I pledge to continue to provide services that they so richly deserve.”

Mr. Uddin, who is also the Founder and President of the Alliance of South

Asian American Labor (ASAAL) said that his re-election as Treasurer will

allow him to continue to help the labor movement flourish and grow within

the nation and will also help ASAAL prosper while making the community more powerful in the future.

“The labor movement is under attack all across the nation. State after State is transforming into a “Right to Work State” with no rights for working people. Tea party supporters are taking away the good union benefits and pensions that protect our working families and keep America strong at home and abroad. As the Treasurer of DC 37, I am privileged to have a platform of unity and strength that will help make the labor movement stronger in the days ahead.”

Treasurer Maf Misbah Uddin stated, “I have spent my entire life helping

those in need, giving voice to the voiceless, and those who are striving to

achieve the American Dream. I’m sure with our hard work and dedication we will continue to help thousands to achieve their desired goals.”

During his tenure he has help safeguard the members benefits worth $400 million including prescription drug coverage. Mr. Uddin is the trustee of all four trust funds such as Health and Security, Annuity, Education, and Benefits Fund Trust. Mr. Uddin is highly respected by his peers for his work in providing the best benefits to all DC 37 members and to their families.

You may already know, in July, Mr. Uddin was also re-elected unopposed for a sixth three-year term to the Presidency of Local 1407 – Accountants, Statisticians, and Actuaries of the City of New. Local 1407 members work in all the City agencies, including CUNY, of the City of New York.
