World Bank to continue support education in Bangladesh

Washington : The World Bank will continue its support to the education sector in Bangladesh.This was informed at a high level meeting between the Bangladesh government and the World Bank at the organization’s headquarters in Washington DC in the USA yesterday. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid led Bangladesh delegation at the meeting while Vice President of the World Bank Annette Dixon, led the World Bank delegation.

The World Bank Vice President said, her organization will continue its support for the expansion and qualitative improvement of education in Bangladesh. The World Bank Vice President lauded the success achieved in Bangladesh’s education, especially spread of women education, prevention of dropout, and modernization of technical and vocational education. The World Bank delegate while exchanging views, congratulated the government of Bangladesh led by Sheikh Hasina and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid for the world acclaimed achievements in the education sector in Bangladesh.

Education Minister highlighted various programmes taken in Bangladesh for the emancipation of women’s education and for the modernization of technical, vocational and madrasha education. He thanked the development partners, especially World Bank, for their generous support for the development of education in Bangladesh.Vice President of the World Bank informed that her organization would take steps for launching more new projects to accelerate the educational development in Bangladesh. The World Bank President Dr. Jim Yong Kim would visit Bangladesh in October 2016, she added.

Education Secretary Md. Sohrab Hossain, SEQAEP Project Director Dr. Md. Mahmudul Haq and World Bank Alternative Director Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan were present in the Bangladesh delegation in the meeting. World Bank high officials including representatives from its Asian and South Asian region assisted Vice President Annette Dixon at the meeting. Education Minister arrived in Washington DC on 4 June to take part in the meeting with World Bank on cooperation for the development of education in Bangladesh.
