The quality of education in Bangladesh

The quality of education in Bangladesh is far from being satisfactory. Honesty speaking, education and development of a country are inseparably linked. No nation can progress without an effective and quality education system. Unfortunately, there is no noticeable initiative to develop and maintain quality of education system in Bangladesh. A couple of commissions were set up to bring about positive change in our education sector. But recommendations of these commissions did not see light of the day. As a result, quality of education is deteriorating every day.

Our education system is based purely on  theory where students study only to get degrees and not to gather knowledge. There is hardly an opportunity to develop the creative power of the students who only memorise some selective questions and answers to pass the exams.
Additionally, the relationship between teachers and students in our educational institutions is not a healthy one and as such, there exists an undesirable gap between them. On the contrary, teachers and students have a friendly relationship with each other in developed societies. The classroom environment must be conducive to the students and the main responsibility in this regard lies with the teachers.
We have a one-way education system in Bangladesh where only the teachers play an active role. They deliver lectures and the students play a passive role only by listening to them. Teachers normally do not entertain questions from the students in a class. In such a teacher-dominated environment, students only acquire bookish knowledge and their innate qualities cannot fully flourish. A lot of private educational institutions have emerged and that has not changed the scenario. Although some of them maintain high quality education, generally these institutions are run purely on commercial basis.
