Together with its Women’s and Youth Committees ·

The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) was founded on July 30, 2008 in New York · First and only South Asian Organization Testified (9/26/08) at the City Council for two Eid Holidays which finally established in 2015 · Over 100 Elected Officials participated at ASAAL Meetings, Forums, and Conventions · Helped elect members of the City Council, State Assembly, State Senate,Congress, and US Senate Candidates including Grace Meng as the 1st Asian in Congress from the East coast of USA in 2012 · Authored, printed, and distributed 60,000 campaign palm cards in support of our endorsed candidates · After 2010 Census worked hard, testified (1/13/12, 2/7/12, 8/21/12) and lobbied in redistricting to create CD 24 and AD 24 where 30 to 39% are South Asian Population respectively · Obtained appointments to the (i) Community Board, (ii) Police Precinct Council, (iii) Hospital Advisory Board, (iv) Friends of Library in the Borough of Queens, Bronx, and Brooklyn (Kings) · Testified (3/16/12) before the Board of Election to establish Bengali Language on the New York City ballot and other Government service providing agencies while arranging hundreds of Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, and Gujarati interpreter on Election Day. · Helped convert 168th Street in front of Jamaica Muslim Center from two-way traffic to safe one-way traffic · Always working on Immigration reform by lobbying politicians and testifying at legislative hearings. · Voiced against poor working conditions of Garment workers in Bangladesh, China, India, Jordan, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka · Protested unsafe, underage (child labor), and under paid positions at ship breaking yard in Chittagong, Bangladesh · Opposed Stop and Frisk *Protest Sikh massacre in Wisconsin *Opposed Mosque and Muslim surveillance · Obtained funding for 1st ever created Halal senior center currently located at the Jamaica Muslim Center · First ever South Asian appointed (11/10/15) Criminal Court Judge Raja Rajeswari by the Mayor of the City of New York Bill de Blasio then Civil Court Judge Ushir Pandit-Durant elected (1/1/16) · Our Job/Housing Seminars have helped hundreds of South Asians (also African Americans and Latinos) to get the direction they need towards getting a job and/or finding housing · Registered tens of voters, educated hundreds of voters, and mobilized thousands of them on Election Day!
