2 NYPD Officers Shot and 1 Gravely Wounded in The Bronx: Sources

By Murray Weiss, Janon Fisher and Kathleen Culliton, THE BRONX — An NYPD sergeant was shot in the head and his partner was hit in the leg during a gun battle with a heavily armed robber in the Van Nest section Friday afternoon, sources said. The sergeant and the officer chased the man, who was suspected of a home invasion, returned fire and kill the armed suspect at 1575 Noble Ave., at the corner of Mansion Street, according to authorities. Multiple firearms were found on the suspect, sources said. Both officers were taken to Jacobi Hospital in a police car by other patrolmen, sources said.
