Dromm, Asian Community United Society, EmblemHealth & the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit host 7th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration in Elmhurst, Queens

UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk, New York : On Saturday, NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm and co-sponsors Asian Community United Society, EmblemHealth & the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit ushered in the Year of the Rooster at the 7th Annual Lunar New Year celebration at St. James’s Episcopal Church, Elmhurst. The event featured a resource fair featuring dozens of community based organizations, traditional Korean drumming, traditional Chinese dance, traditional Vietnamese music, a performance by PS 7Q students, Chinese calligraphy, free face painting and arts/crafts for children, and lion dancing. “Lunar New Year is an important cultural holiday celebrated by Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese families worldwide” said NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Elmhurst, Jackson Heights). “As a Council Member representing one of the largest Asian American communities in the city, I am pleased to have founded this event which allows us to celebrate the new year together as one neighborhood.” Dromm first established the event in 2011 to create an opportunity for the Asian American communities of Elmhurst to increase their visibility and celebrate their cultural pride while sowing the seeds for future organizing.
