UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk, Washington D.C : Bangladesh to crush violent extremism Bangladesh is working closely with the US and other friendly countries to stamp out violent extremism in pursuance of its anti-terrorism ‘zero tolerance’ policy, Ambassador Mohammad Ziauddin told a US Congressman in Washington D.C. Thursday.

Bangladesh to crush violent extremism During a meeting with Republican Congressman from California Dana Rohrabacher at Capitol Hill, Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Ziauddin briefed him on the existing communal harmony in Bangladesh and secular values on which the country has been founded. He highlighted the ‘zero tolerance’ policy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against all forms of terrorism and violent extremism.

Mr. Dana Rohrabacher is the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats and a member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific.

The Ambassador underscored that Prime Minister Hasina being a victim of terrorism had been steering the country with a determined leadership to eliminate terrorism and violent extremism. He described the initiatives taken by the current government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to contain the menace of terrorism and violent extremism from society.

He said Bangladesh is closely working with the U.S.A., neighbors and other friendly countries to weed out extremism and terrorism from Bangladesh and even beyond. In this context, the Ambassador mentioned about the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and the U.S.A. in intelligence sharing and other capacity building measures to eliminate the extremist elements from Bangladesh.

The Ambassador also mentioned about the brutal assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most members of his family on August 15, 1975, and subsequent usurpation of the state power by military regime and how religious politics crept into Bangladesh.
