Bangladesh Consulate General in New York observes “Historic Mujibnagar Day”

UsaNewsonline.Com, New York : The Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York observed “Historic Mujibnagar Day” on 17 April, 2017 in a befitting manner commemorating the oath-taking of the first Government of Bangladesh in 1971.

A discussion meeting was held at the Chancery in which the speakers touched on the importance of the day with special focus on the role of the Mujubnagar Government in steering the War of Liberation which eventually led to the independence of Bangladesh.

Messages of the Honorable President and Honorable Prime Minister were read out.

In his remarks, Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan, ndc, Consul General of Bangladesh in New York paid glowing tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his pioneering role and charismatic leadership in gaining independence for the country. He presented the historical facts and events leading to the formation of the Mujibnagar Government with the elected representatives. He specially highlighted on the role of the Mujibnagar Government in overseeing the War of Liberation and its commendable efforts to obtain international recognition and to unite the nation and lead it at both domestic and international fronts. In this regard, he urged expatriate Bangladeshis to come forward to materialize the dream of “Sonar Bangla” envisioned by the Father of the Nation. Mr.  Abdul Mannan, MP, Honorable Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture narrated the background of the historic day and also touched on the development journey under the dynamic leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Other Speakers, while highlighting the importance of the day, felt that all the citizens of the country including the expatriate nationals should never forget the historic role of the Mujibnagar Government in materializing the dreams of independence. Mr. Md. Monirul Islam, former Member of Parliament and President of US Awami League Dr. Siddiqur Rahman, were present, among others. Mission officials, prominent political and social leaders, and expatriate Bangladesh nationals were also present during the event.
