Painting Exhibition of Women Artists organized by Bangladesh Consulate General starts in New York

UsaNewsOnline.Com, New York : A Painting Exhibition organized by the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York was inaugurated at 6:30pm on 27 July, 2017 by H.E. Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN, New York. Mr. Md. Shameem       Ahsan,ndc, Consul General welcomed the guests. In his remarks, he thanked the guests and others for their presence and support to organize it. Mr. Ahsan felt that the initiative will go a long way in branding the country positively. In his remarks, Ambassador Masud Bin Momen, who was the Chief Guest, touched on the rich culture and heritage of Bangladesh, vibrancy of the art works of the artists as well as women empowerment in Bangladesh. He thanked the prominent women artists and the Consulate General and partners for the initiative. The exhibition will also reflect a blending of the perspectives of the artists at home and abroad- he added. Mr. Jeffrey R. Cellars, Area Director at the Office of Foreign Missions (OFM) in New York also spoke and felt that culture can be an important tool to create better understanding between the two friendly countries. Ms. Shameem Subrana, Director, Gallery21, Dhaka in her remarks thanked the Consulate General for inviting them to be a part of the initiative. Being organized in collaboration with Gallery21, Dhaka, The New York Art Connection and Bangladeshi-American Artists Forum, New York, the exhibition will showcase artistic creations of prominent eighteen women artists from Bangladesh and diaspora. It will feature art works of Shameem Subrana, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Rokeya Sultana, Farida Zaman, Gulshan Hossain, Nazia Andaleeb Preema, Dilruba Latif (Rosy), Bipasha Hayat, Afrozaa Jamil Konka & Samina Nafies from Bangladesh and Shamim Begum, Zebunnesa Kamal, Salma Kaniz, Masuda Kazi, Halide Salam, Shameem Ara, Kaniz Husna Akbory & Sazada Sultana from diaspora. The Exhibition entitled “Bangladesh Women Artists Exhibition” will feature about 30 art works and will remain open from 10am-6pm from 28-31 July,2017 at famous Rogue Space Gallery located in the Chelsea Art District of Manhattan, New York (508 West 26th Street, New York, NY 10001). A colorful catalog was published to mark the event. An opening Reception took place after the formal inauguration in which senior officials from the US Government, Consuls General, diplomats, members of the US civil society and various cultural organizations, eminent persons of the community, members of the media and a large number of art enthusiasts and culture connoisseurs were present, among others. The Painting Exhibition is being organized by the Consulate General as a part of public diplomacy drive to portray a positive image of Bangladesh to the wider US audience.
