Dhaka grateful to Washington : Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Ambassador Ziauddin

Shamim Ahmad, Washington, DC. : Bangladesh has expressed her deep gratitude to the international community, particularly to the conscientious people and government of the United of Sates of America for their strong support for Dhaka for hosting a million of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin, speaking at a cultural evening 12 October Thursday, said despite constraints, the people of Bangladesh are extending all-out support to the “Mother of Humanity”, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her efforts to ease the pain and sufferings of Myanmar nationals, who have fled and are fleeing even today the atrocities of the Myanmar government.

The Ambassador made an appeal to all to extend their support for humanity in distress across the world.

“I believe better life for all is possible if we firmly stand together shoulder to shoulder determined to establish justice in our societies by way of removing deprivation and injustice of all kinds from people, living within and beyond our borders.”

Mr. Ted Hart, President of the CAF, America and Mr. Jeromy Barry of the Embassy Series spoke at the “Celebration of Bangladesh” function.

The Bangladesh Embassy in partnership with the Embassy Series and CAF America organized the show celebrating life through dance and music at the Bangabandhu Auditorium.

Finance Minister A.M.A Muhith, foreign diplomats, senior officials of the US Department of State, Department of Justice, Bangladesh government, representatives of Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), America, Liakat Ali Lucky, Director of Shilpakala Academy and members of the Bengali diaspora largely attended the function.

Dancers with music from Shilpakala Academy of Bangladesh sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs presented the show. Local dance troupe from Srishtee Nrittyangan, a dance academy of the greater Washington, DC, also joined the performance displaying Bangladesh’s proud history of the Language Movement and the War of Liberation and the rich traditional culture and heritage of the Bengali nation.

The Ambassador said culture is a complete way of life reflected by language, music, art, religion, values, cuisine and other characteristics.

He said Bangladesh’s culture comprises all these traits among which a prominent one is Bangla language for which Bengali-speaking people in 1952 laid down their lives for establishing their mother tongue as the State language.

Ambassador Ziauddin said the Bangladesh’s war of liberation is a striking example of a people united in a fight for freedom, secularism and emancipation under the charismatic leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Ambassador said history teaches that spiritual leaders of Sufis introduced the mysticism of Sufism in ancient Bengal, most of which is now Bangladesh. This divine philosophy has carefully nurtured and evolved the creation of various art forms, including music and dance.

Bangladesh has emerged as a nation of poets, singers, music lovers and litterateurs, the envoy told the enthralled audience.
