Bangladesh Consulate General donates books to the Queens Library in New York

UsaNewsOnline.Com, New York : Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan,ndc, Consul General handed over a good number of books on 25 January 2018 to Mr. Nick Buron, Chief Librarian and Senior Vice President of the Queens Library, New York. The books/publications (Both in Bangla and English) cover a wide range of issues including great War of Liberation, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, trial of war crimes, culture, tradition, economy, politics, development journey, role of Bangladesh on Rohingya Issue and Bangla Literature etc.  In his remarks, Consul General Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan,ndc expressed his satisfaction for the token contribution. He felt that the addition will help the growing Bangladeshi-American community to remain connected with their country of origin while it will also meet the queries of the inquisitive foreigners as there has been growing interest about the country. The Library Officials deeply appreciated the gesture of the Consulate General. It may be mentioned here that Queens Borough has the highest concentration of the Bangladeshis in New York. Mr. Fred J. Gitner, Assistant Director, Ms. Selina Sharmin MLS, Coping Skills Librarian, Mr. Md. Shamim Hossain, First Secretary, foreigners and members of the community, among others, were present.It may be mentioned here that the Consulate General has also been donating books published by National Curriculum and Textbook Board, Dhaka to the local Bangla schools to help the younger members of the diaspora retain and nourish their our distinct culture and language.
