Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury reported on the CGPMG held in Dhaka

Sharke Chaman Khan: State Minister for Women and Children Affairs, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury reported on the 8th Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group (CGPMG) held in Dhaka last year during the consultation of Commonwealth National Women’s Machineries on Sunday 20th February here in New York. Dr. Chaudhury called to make a proposal to the Head of the Governments to create gender based budgeting while she was attending a  meeting of the consultation of commonweal the national women machineries. This will be formulated and presented in October in Perth, Australia. Country representatives of Commonwealth countries attended the meeting.
Key partners of the CGPMG; UNESCO, ESCAP, AUSAID and UNDP gave an overview of their work. The theme for this year is women as agents of change. The critical areas of assessment has been gender and HIV, gender, democracy, peace and conflict, gender human rights and law and gender, poverty eradication and Women’s empowerment. Since the review new issues have been emerging such as human trafficking and climate change.
During the end of the session there was a lesson sharing segment and progress on gender felines budget and inclusive financing. First Secretary of the Mission Iqbal Ahmed presented Bangladesh as a model of gender response budgeting. It should be noted that Bangladesh has had gender based budgeting for the past two fiscal years.
Dr. Chaudhury will attend the 55th session of the ‘Commission for the Status of Women’ at the UN during her stay in New York.
