Bangladesh Embassy In Copenhagen Celebrated International Mother Language Day On 21st February In Denmark
UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk : Embassy of Bangladesh in Copenhagen has celebrated today the Language Martyrs’ Day and the International Mother Language Day 2018 with due solemnity and great fervour. The day-long programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag at half-mast in the morning by the Ambassador of Bangladesh Mr. Muhammad A. Muhith. A discussion programme was organized by the Embassy in the evening at the Chancery auditorium where a good number of Non-resident Bangladesh citizens including political figures, artistes, professionals working with various Danish government and non-government organizations and UN bodies along with their family members were present. During the programme, messages from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon`ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs released on the Language Martyrs’ Day and the International Mother Language Day 2018 were read out.
A documentary on the history of language movement and the International Mother Language Day was screened. Members of the Bangladesh Community in Copenhagen took part in the lively discussion segment where they focused on the importance of mother language on human life. Two other video clippings prepared on the occasion by the Bangladesh Missions in Colombo and Athens were also shown. Special prayers were offered for the salvation of the departed souls of the language martyrs and all other who made supreme sacrifices for the cause of the nation, as well as for the peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Ambassador Mr. Muhammad A. Muhith in his remarks paid homage to the memories of the language martyrs and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who had steered the language movement from within the confines of the prison cell. While describing 21st February as a gift from Bangalee nation to the world community, he shed light on the significance of the day in the life of Bengali people which ultimately ushered the independence of Bangladesh. Mentioning the culture and heritage of a nation are deeply rooted in her mother tongue, he underscored the importance of language for the progress and prosperity of any nation. While referring to the example of nations across the globe, he opined that that use of Bangla, without any distortion, in all spheres of life, is critically important to uphold the spirit of Ekushey. Finally, he called upon the expatriate Bangladesh community to encourage their children for practicing and promoting Bengali culture in their lives and thus establishing a connection with the rich heritage of our nation which we can all be very proud of.
