“Open House” celebrated at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC

Shamim Ahmad, Washington, D.C : Thousands of enthusiastic foreigners and local residents visited Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC Saturday (May 5) to join the celebration of the “Open House” programs, an annual festival marking the International Cultural Awareness month.

The US Department of State proclaimed the event as International Cultural Awareness month observed in May.

The visitors of all ages—women, men and children–joined the “Open House” programs at different embassies organized in collaboration with Cultural Tourism DC, a Washington based nonprofit organization, showcasing cultural diversity through holding of various events.

The embassies from Asia, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Americas participated in the program with artists and artisans, performers, lecturers, teachers, and others provide a range of educational and cultural programming.

Bangladesh Embassy, in celebration of the day for the 11th consecutive year, organized cultural show and other activities presenting Bangladesh’s rich culture and heritage at the Bangabandhu auditorium.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin and other officers of the embassy welcomed the visitors.

The ‘Open House’ program included display of Bangladesh’s handicrafts, tourism destinations and historical places.

The embassy also availed the opportunity of showing Bangladesh’s history of independence, contribution to the UN peacekeeping missions and current developments in potential sectors.

Artists from Bangladesh community performed folk songs and dances. The visitors evinced keen interest in Bangladeshi traditional cuisine, a three wheeler ‘Rickshaw’ while youngsters in henna demonstration.
