Dr. Momen made a statement on the Report of the Secretary General on Peacebuilding

Sharke Chaman Khan,New York:“Annual Report of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) and the Report of the Secretary General on the Peacebuilding could have clear analysis of the PBSO (Peacebuilding Support Office) actions taken during the reporting period to give clear guidance of possible future courses of actions in establishing sustainable peace in post conflict countries. These logical analysis could give clear basis for recommendations for future actions in general and for carrying forward of the recommendations of the review in particular.” Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Dr A K Momen said this while he was delivering the statement on behalf  of the Non-Aligned Movement as Coordinator of NAM Caucus in the Peacebuilding Commission  in the  Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly to consider, in a joint debate on Annual Report of the PBC and the Report of the Secretary General on the Peacebuilding Fund on 21st March at the UN-HQ. He urged the Secretariat to intensify their efforts to work more closely with relevant stakeholders particularly representatives of host countries to ensure higher utilization of peacebuilding fund efficiently and effectively to have desired efficacy in achieving sustainable peace. He also urged them to further intensify their cooperation to enhance donor base so that the attainable peace is not hostage to the paucity of fund that has not been mobilized owing to lack of sufficient coordination.

Dr Momen left New York for Chonburi, Thailand to attend the 2011 Annual Ministerial Review on Regional Preparatory Meeting for Asia and the Pacific. He will attend the event entitled ‘Education and the achievement of the Millennium development Goals’ on 24th March as the ECOSOC Vice-President. Dr Momen will make the opening remark at the session. He will also chair a side event entitled “Education and Poverty Reduction (MDG 1)”.
