ASAAL leaders met US Congressman Max Rose

UsaNewsOnline.Com, New York, March 19 : ASAAL leaders led by National Secretary Mohammed Karim Chowdhury and Staten Island Chapter President Dr. Nithiananda Chatterjie met Congressman Max Rose today at his district office in Staten Island,NY.

ASAAL leaderships reiterated their demands for toll free Verrazano bridge for all Staten Island residence, better public education for all, reduction of residential property tax, Medicare part D amendment and fixing our broken healthcare systems in Staten Island. 

Congressman assured us that his office has been working with state legislatures for significant reduction of Verrazano bridge toll for Staten and South Brooklyn Residents. His office is currently exploring several options to reduce Verrazano bridge toll.

We talked about the necessity of better quality public education in Staten Island. ASAAL leaderships suggested to look at our education quality in global perspective. We emphasized on redesigning our education system, curriculum, teaching methods and grading system. We wanted a public education system that can prepare our public school students to compete with global talents. Congressman stated that his office is continuously working to improve education quality in his district and around the nation.

We informed congressman that the growing property tax on residential property is a big financial burden for many retirees and low income home owners. We sought his help to reduce  the residential property tax by amending existing calculation methods! Congressman stated that his office is well aware of this issue and will do whatever he can. His office will work with state legislatures to address this matter.

Congressman Max Rose opposed ASAAL’s idea of public hospital in Staten Island. Instead, his office trying to improve the service of existing two hospitals.

Dr. Chatterjie demanded to amend Medicare part D to facilitate the bargaining power in negotiating drug prices with drug houses.

Director of constituent service Kevin Elkins and other staves were present with Congressman during this meeting.
