QUEENS BOROUGH PRESIDENT KATZ TO HOST MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE CEREMONY May 22

USANEWSONLINE.COM DESK, QUEENS, NY – Borough President Melinda Katz will host her annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Queens Borough Hall to honor both those who have served in our Armed Forces and those who have perished.

The event will include a wreath-placement ceremony to honor all those whose lives were lost in service to our nation, as well as remarks from special guest speaker Tanya Thomas, the Engagement Community Service Coordinator of the New York City Department of Veterans’ Services.

Borough President Katz will also present Citations of Honor to the following distinguished Queens veterans:

• Private First Class Joseph F. Cerese, United States Army (Veteran of World War II)
• Specialist Fourth Class Andrew Tollefsen, United States Army (Veteran of the Vietnam War)
• Sergeant Brendan Gibbons, United States Marine Corps (Veteran of the conflicts in Bosnia and Kosovo).

Ahead of the May 22 Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, the flags of all five branches of the United States military will be installed outside Queens Borough Hall and in the building’s lobby on Monday, May 20^th — remaining there through Memorial Day on Monday, May 27^th. Three years ago, Queens Borough Hall became the first borough hall in the city to fly the flags of our nation’s military branches during periods of remembrance for those who have served this country.
