Bangladesh Embassy “Open House” draws huge crowd

USA NEWS: The day long Embassy Open House programme of Bangladesh Embassy of Washington DC draws thousands of crowds. Visitors from all over USA and tourist from other countries visited the day long programme which was organized in coordination with Cultural Tourism DC, a Washington-based non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing cultural diversity through holding of such events in collaboration with the Embassies in Washington, DC. This is the fourth consecutive year that this particular cultural program has been organized at the Embassy. This year the Department of State proclaimed the month of May 2011 International Cultural Awareness Month in honor of Cultural Tourism DC’s Passport DC.

 Akramul Qader, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA and State Minister and his wife  Rifat Sultana Akram welcomed the guests in the Embassy. In his remarks prior to the cultural show, Ambassador Qader said that the cultural event at the Embassy was an effort to showcase various aspects of Bangladesh’s culture and heritage to connect to wider audience in the USA. He thanked the guests for attending the event.

The day’s program included display of Bangladesh’s handicrafts and exportable and cultural program performed by expatriate Bangladeshi artists. The Embassy availed the opportunity of displaying Bangladesh’s history, art and achievements of the present democratic Government in different fields such as women empowerment and Bangladesh’s contribution to peacekeeping under the UN. The programme also featured a painting exhibition by a Bangladeshi Monica Jahan Bose, American Painter. The guests enjoyed traditional Bangladeshi cuisine. This year about 3000 spectators attended the event.
