UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk, New York : Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN) joined other pro-environment organizations to express support and solidarity with the climate strike of September 20 in the USA and many other countries of the world. A team of BEN, led by BEN founder and adviser, Dr. Nazrul Islam; Khourshedul Islam, President of Progressive Forum, New York; Nini Wahed, Convener of BEN 20th Anniversary Celebration Committee; Rezwan Sharif, an environment expert from Brooklyn; Risalat Khan, an Avvaz activist, and others joined the rally held at Battery Park, South Manhattan at part of the strike program.
According to the organizers, 250,000 students joined the strike in New York. More than a million did so in Germany. Large number of students participated in the strike in Australia, Ireland, and other countries. Students in some developing countries also joined the strike, including India and Bangladesh.

The strike was a continuation of a campaign initiated by the Swedish school girl, Greta Thunberg, who travelled to the USA in an emission-less boat across the Atlantic last month and was the inspiration of the strike today. She was also the star speaker at the rally. In her speech she said that when adults are failing, the children and young people can’t sit idle, because it is their future which is at stake. Unfortunately, currently the  adults are destroying that future by causing and not being able to stop climate change. She hoped that world leaders gathering for the climate summit on Sept 23 will take meaningful steps. She said the children’s movement against climate change will continue and will become stronger with time.
Among other featured speakers at the event was a Bangladeshi girl student attending a school in New York.
BEN banner at the event drew considerable attention, Many people displayed interest in it and took pictures. Attached are two pictures of BEN participation in the event. Press Release.
