NAVA Annual Winter Gala Held At World Fair Marina

USANEWSONLINE.COM DESK, QUEENS, N.Y – Over 200 people attended the New American Voters Association’s (NAVA) Annual Winter Gala on Thursday, December 19th at 6:00 pm at World Fair Marina Restaurant & Banquet Hall located at 1 World Fair Marina, Flushing, benefitting the children with Cancer, Cancer Center for Kids & Holiday Toy Drive for the Homeless Children.

Nava recognized five Honoree’s for the exemplary contributions they are making for their community and NYC residents. The honorees are Mari G. Millet, President & Chief Executive Officer of Morris Heights Health Center (MHHC, Dr. Janan Sayyed D.C., N.D., PhD, Dr. Hari Shukla MD, Dr. Faith N. Brown EdD, Mohammed N. Mujumder LLM ,PHF.

Dr. Bindu Babu who was the Chair of the Annual Winter Gala and the Director of Leadership Academy for NAVA, spoke about the importance of the community to come together to help support not only the children who are suffering from cancer and their treatments but also their families who face tremendous mental , physical and financial hardships. A Toy Drive was also held for the children in homeless shelter where the community response has exceeded NAVA’s expectations.

There was a surprise proclamation given to the Founder and President of NAVA, Dr. Dilip Nath by Congress women Grace Meng for his outstanding and exemplary work towards voter rights and privileges for the New Americans. In her recognition Congresswomen Meng declared December 19th, 2019 as Dr. Dilip Nath day in the 6th congressional district in Queens.

The keynote speaker at the Winter Gala was Hon. Queens Borough president/ Elect D. A Melinda Katz who spoke about her plans of advancement & benefits she’s planning to bring with her historical 31 member transition team which Dr. Dilip Nath was chosen as one of the team members.

Among other elected officials who spoke at the evet were Brooklyn Borough President Hon. Eric Adams, Senator Anna Kaplan, Council Member Barry Grodenchick, Assembly member David Weprin, Council Member Costa Constantinides, Queens Borough President Candidate Elizabeth Crowley and representative Jacqueline Rozado from Senator Jessica Ramos office.

“As the founder of NAVA, I had a vision for our organization to be a strong contributor in educating the community on the importance of voter’s rights and how impactful each individual, especially New Americans, can be for advancement & change in our community. The New American Voters Association (NAVA) not-for-profit public advocacy organization whose primary mission is to get New American’s engaged in the political process and community work. Since its inception in 2007, NAVA has worked to promote diversity and worked to increase accessibility for new immigrant communities to take part in civic society. NAVA sponsors voting rights forums, voter registration drives; and has extensively helped with initiatives like PlaNYC, the municipal ID card, and the census to ensure that the diverse communities across New York City are getting the proper resource allocations on the federal, state and local levels.
