MUNA Condemns Killing of George Flyod
USANEWSONLINE.COM DESK, NEW YORK : The Muslim Ummah of North America (MUNA) denounces in the strongest words possible the death of George Flyod, an unarmed Black man at the hands of police. A white officer pressed his knee against the neck of George Floyd, and refused to lift the pressure for eight minutes despite the plea and distress Mr. Floyd expressed. As witnesses begged the officer to listen to the screams of Mr. Floyd and ease off, he refused to listen and continued to apply pressure while other officers held him down and another kept guard. Officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. MUNA calls for first degree murder and manslaughter charges against ex-officer Derek Chauvin. MUNA also calls for highest possible state and federal charges against all four officers involved.
MUNA supports peaceful demonstrations across the nation and calls on protesters to be peaceful. We call up the law enforcement agencies to restructure themselves, improve trust and working relationship with communities they are working for. We also call for independent prosecutors to prosecute police misconduct in a timely and transparent manner. Independent prosecution process is an essential component in stopping police brutality in the communities of color.
While our communities, especially the people of color, are reeling and processing the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breanna Taylor, Sean Reed and countless others, we are faced with the tragedy of yet another life lost unnecessarily. We mourn for the family of George Floyd and our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with them and all lives impacted by Systemic Racism and police brutality. Press Release.
