UsaNewsOnline.Com : Anis Ahmed, a former lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court came to the United States on a Fellowship on American and International Law in 1984. Before that, he attended Notre Dame College and Dhaka University, Bangladesh to earn Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), Bachelors of Law (LLB Hons) and Masters of Law (LLM) degrees.

​He started working with Montgomery County Government, Maryland, USA shortly after obtaining Masters of International Management degree from University of Maryland, USA.

​Besides his employment he is engaged with community and political activities.

​Maryland Governor Hon. Martin O’Malley appointed Mr. Ahmed as a Commissioner for the Commission on South Asian American Affairs in 2012 for a term of four years. Current Governor Hon. Larry Hogan re-appointed him to serve as Commissioner.

Prior to this position, Mr. Ahmed also served as a Commissioner for the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs from 2008 to 2012.

​Mr. Ahmed also served as a member of the “Governmental Access” and “Citizenship” Working Groups of the Maryland Governor’s Council on New Americans. In that capacity he helped writing report on ways to help immigrant population in the state under the leadership Hon. Tom Perez, current National Democratic Party Chairman and who served as US Secretary of Labor under the President Obama’s administration and once a Maryland Secretary of Labor under Governor Martin O’Malley administration,  The report helped Governor Martin O’Malley and Maryland General Assembly to pass Dream Act in the State of Maryland. Maryland is one of the first state that passed Dream Act. 

​He organized and managed many national, state and local events for the Asian, South Asians and Muslim Americans and over all Americans. Among all, he organized three very high level events in collaboration with the White House Initiative on Asian Pacific and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). The first was Community Forum on Meet and Greet in West Palm Beach, Florida in 2012, second event was a Community Forum on Immigration in Orlando, Florida in 2013. White House officials attended at the both events. Third event was on Immigration Forum at the North American Bangladesh Convention in New York city in September 2014. Senior Advisors to the White House AAPI, and US Immigration officials attended the event. He moderated all these three events. 

​Under the leadership of US Senator Chris Van Hollen and Maryland State Senator Hon. Susan Lee, he helped Coalition of Pacific American Democrats (CAPAD) to organize two successful events at the United State Senate building in 2008 and 2012 in commemoration of the Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage month celebration. He also moderated two discussion forums at the Maryland State Senate Building that were organized by the Governor’s Office. The forums were on “Anti-Discrimination” and “Prevention of Human Trafficking” issues. He has been organizing Ramadan Iftar Celebrations in Montgomery County, Maryland every year since 2008.

Under the leadership of Senator James Rosapepe, Senator Susan Lee and Delegate Kumar Barve, Mr. Ahmed took initiative for the recognition of the South Asian American Heritage day Celebration. He also participated at the Maryland Senate and House Committee Hearings in support of the bill. A bill recognizing the South Asian American Heritage Day was passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor Larry Hogan in 2015.
