Ambassador Mohammad Ziauddin meets Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Senior member of the US Congress Homeland Security
UsaNewsOnline.com: Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Ziauddin met the influential Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who is currently Senior Member of the Committee on the Homeland Security and the Ranking member of the Subcommittee on the Border and Maritime Security, at the Capitol Hill 18 November.
Ambassador Ziauddin briefed the Congresswoman about the women empowerment in Bangladesh. He said that the participation of women is evident in the every sphere of life in Bangladesh. Present Government led by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina adopted liberal and women friendly policies to bring the women in the mainstream. Bangladesh Ambassador added that the present government adopted National Women Policy-2011 and Family Violence Prevention and Protection Act-2010 to re-establish the women rights. Moreover, this government took massive initiatives for the safe-motherhood, girl’s education, reserved employment for the women, monthly allowances for the elderly women and widows, small loan for women employment, recruitment of women in the Arm forces and Police and sending women to the Peace Keeping Operations etc.
Ambassador Ziauddin said that Bangladesh has been implementing the commitments made and suggestions elaborated by all partners e.g. EU, USA and other development partners to ensure the worker’s rights and safety in RMG sector. He said that significant progress has already been made in this sector. Government and the people in Bangladesh are committed to sustain the changes to make RMG sector a clean, dignified and productive and thus offering a win-win proposition for all.
Bangladesh Ambassador briefed the Congresswomen about the International Crimes Tribunals in Bangladesh and government’s firm position against any form of terrorism and extremism.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said that Bangladesh is a Role-model for its’ remarkable achievements in women empowerment. She conveyed tribute to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and expressed her deep interest to meet her while she visits the United States in future.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee welcomed the new Ambassador and assured him all necessary cooperation during his stay in the United States. Counsellor Political Nayem Uddin Ahmed of the Embassy accompanied the Ambassador during the meeting.
