USANewsOnline.Com, Georgia : On January 28, 2023 the ASAAL Georgia Chapter Committee took their oath of office conducted by the National President Maf Misbah Uddin. On this third committee installation occasion National President Uddin travelled from New York with him were National Secretary Karim Chowdhury and National corresponding Secretary Jed Matalon. The whole event was run by Tanjina Islam, as the mistress of ceremony while current President Dr. Rashid Malik Ph D presided the event.
The event took place at Microtel by Wyndham, 1840 Corporate Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30329. The event was joined by ASAAL Life members Senator Sheikh Rahman; Senator Nabila Islam, and State Representatives Gabe Okoye among many established community Leaders including Dr. Awal Dad Khan, Ph. D., D. Sc.
ASAAL Georgia was founded on April 14, 2017 under the leadership of Md. Ali Hossain who was also the Georgia Awami League President at the time. In 2020 Dr. Rashid Malik, Ph. D. became the President of ASAAL Georgia and served until Engg. Mr. Abu Liakot Hossain took the oath as the 3rd President of ASAAL Georgia for a two year term 2023-2024. At the event National President Maf Misbah Uddin, said “he loves to come to Georgia as it is his 2nd visit to meet ASAAL Georgia Chapter members. It is their hard work and dedication that made ASAAL famous in Georgia. Your work even in the last senatorial runoff election where you help RE-elect Senator Warnock is remarkable. Georgia I want you to feel proud and keep up the good work that made ASAAL relevant in Georgia!” He then added, “we are labor we are not union, we are democratic we are not Democrats we love the Republic but we are not Republicans. We are by partisans! Like you we are some ordinary people doing the extraordinarily work for our community and generation to come”!
National Secretary Karim Chowdhury in his opening remarks said, “Our National President Maf Uddin has the vision, he gave us the tools, to be part of American politics. ASAAL is the bridge between our community and mainstream politics. Today, in most cases, Politicians calls us before we call them. They know our name before we learned their names. With you we are growing, your volunteerism is the key, it is the power, it will give us a seat anywhere we want to be. You have changed Red Georgia to purple with you we will make Georgia blue!”
Senator Sheikh Rahman in his keynote speech said, “ASAAL is great, I have been to many of its Conventions in New York City, it is amazing as to how many high levels politician comes to their events! It is not them, it is their hard work, their volunteering, their voting, they became powerful. In Georgia can do the same, register and come out to vote, there is no short cut, politicians must believe in you. I know we can do this, let’s do it together.”
Senator Nabila Islam said, “I love ASAAL and their work, I’m proud that I’m a life member. I have joined ASAAL convention in 2019 in NYC. I was impressed by observing participation of the politicians and leaders of our South Asian Community. I missed this year’s convention due to the fact that I was busy with Senate sessions. I will always be part of ASAAL and will help it gets even better!”
Georgia State Representative Gabe Okoye said, I joined ASAAL in 2017 when I was the Chairman of the Gwinnett County Democratic Party. You endorsed me in my last election and did phone banking from New York under Secretary Mr. Chowdhury’s leadership. I’m thankful to you and ASAAL. Please invite me always anything you do, I will always be part of ASAAL movement.”
In her brief remarks Breda Lopez Romero, the current Democratic Party Chairman of the Gwinnett County, said, “our fight as a minority and as immigrant continues in this county, that is why ASAAL is important, we are part of it. And we will work together to bring changes in our community and in our State.
Newly elected President Abu Liakot Hossain in his acceptance speech he thanks every one for joining him here today. He gave special thanks to National President Maf Misbah Uddin, Secretary Mohammed Karim Chowdhury, and Corresponding Secretary Jed Matalon for joining him. He then said, “I went to New York at ASAAL came and was very much impressed with their positions and power of ASAAL. Politicians respect them and listen to them. I strongly believe with ASAAL vision and national guidance we can do same thing here in Georgia!” “We can do this together with this strong committee and help from the community we can have more of our candidates win the election in the future!”
Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Awal Dad Khan, Ph. D., D. Sc. who said, “this is great, many leaders from our community are here, if we leave our own politics behind and participate in ASAAL we can be politically empowered. ASAAL is by partisan and we can do so much more together.” He then thanks every one for joining and wish everyone to reach home safe.
The meeting ended at 9 pm with a Georgian Bangladeshi dinner and refreshments were served.
