Bangladeshi diaspora should come forward to build a prosperous Bangladesh: Engr. Khandker Mosharraf Hossain,M.P.
USA: “The present Government under the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is bent on ensuring the welfare of the expatriate community and the Bangladeshi Diaspora should also come forward to achieve its goal”. This was stated by Engr. Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, MP, Minister for Labour & Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Government of Bangladesh who was speaking at a reception organized in his honor by the members of the Bangladesh community of the greater Washington DC area on 01 February.Held at a local hotel in Virginia, USA, the Minister gave an overview of the policies and activities of the present democratic Government aimed at ensuring the welfare of the expatriate community, among others. After his speech, he replied to the queries on various issues from the expatriate nationals which included providing training for the would-be migrant workers, voting rights of the expatriate workers, re-launching of the operation of Biman in New York, strengthening human resources at Bangladesh Missions abroad etc.
The reception was chaired by Akramul Qader, Bangladesh Ambassador to USA. Mentioning about the Digital Bangladesh envisioned by the Prime Minister and her plan to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021, Ambassador Qader urged the community members to come forward not only with material support but also with innovative ideas for the development of their country of origin. He also lauded their pro-active role in the host country as well as their enormous contribution to the buoyancy of the economy of Bangladesh. Community leaders also spoke on the occasion who shared their life stories experienced in a foreign country while making some recommendations to the Government.
The Minister is currently in USA in connection with his participation at the 59th National Prayer Breakfast to be held on 3 February in Washington DC. He will also meet the US Labor Secretary on 2 February.Press Release.
