BOROUGH PRESIDENT GIBSON’S ANNUAL BOROUGH CUP CHESS TOURNAMENT RETURNS FEATURING STUDENTS FROM 30 SCHOOLS BOROUGHWIDE

USANewsOnline.Com Desk, New York – Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson joined Jenny Ingber Chief Executive Officer of Chess in the Schools, Bill Waibel Chief Executive Officer of A+STEM Labs, Principal of P.S. 70 Mrs. Roxanne Ledda, and over 400 Bronx elementary, middle, and high school students for an all-day chess tournament where individual schools competed for 1st Place in an all-day tournament that ended with an award ceremony.


Last year, approximately 300 students registered for and competed in the Borough President’s Cup Chess Tournament; this year, that number increased to 400 students. Chess has been shown to improve cognitive skills for participants and increase creativity, patience, and spatial reasoning transferable skills that can prepare our youth for a successful future.
