USANewsOnline.Com, New York : Friday, April 1, 2022 at 5:00 PM at Kensington Event Hall, 188 Dahill Road, 2nd Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11218 the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) made history by endorsing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for his re-election as the Senior Senator from New York.
At this event, in the presence of ASAAL leaders from all nine Chapters of New York State national Secretary Mohammed Karim Chowdhury gave the introductory speech and introduced the National President Legendary labor leader, recently appointed New York City Districting Commissioner Maf Misbah Uddin.
President Uddin welcomed Senator Chuck Schumer for being present at the event and thanked him for the work he does for labor, immigrants, Muslim, and minorities. His fight after Trump’s Muslim Ban was remarkable. He and ASAAL hopes he will do more in the future for all minorities including Bangladeshis in particular and South Asians in general.
In his introduction the National Secretary brought out our communities burning issues to the attention of the Senator including the immigration of 11 million people, delay in family reunion with slow visas process, economic starvation that our community faces among many other issues during this pandemic.
On behalf of ASAAL Women’s Committee, Queens Women’s Committee Chair Adan Islam talked on domestic violence and lack of cultural and in-language facilities. She said only the Senator and Federal Government can help in this front.
In his acceptance speech Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer said. “ASAAL is a grassroots organization, it’s diverse members are here today, “I’m proud to have the ASAAL endorsement and I will carry the ASAAL banner to the Senate Floor”, “I love labor they are the backbone of the middle class, you work with labor issues in the community, we are in this together, I will be always with you”, he added.
As you know, this event was prepared in 4 days and we could not invite any other politician. However still those who were present and spoke at the event were Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, City Council members Shahana Hanif, Rita Joseph, and Farah N Louis.

Akram, Platoon Commender; Secretary Khairul Hossain; Political Director Md Azizul Hoque; Executive Director Nashir Ahmed Pintoo; Organizing Director Mian Quadry (Shopon); Life Member Mamnunul Haq; Queens Chapter President Kazi Farid Ahammad, CPA; Vice President Harpreet Singh Toor, Vice President Leela Maret, Secretary Harjit Minhas; Bronx Chapter Secretary Ibrahim Barabhuiya, Political Director Md. Alauddin; Manhattan President AKM Amran; Staten Island Vice President Munjur Shaikh; New York State Capital Region Chapter President Prof. Mizanur Rahman of Fordham University and National Corresponding Secretary Jed Matalon.
Refreshments and dinner were served!
This was a monumental moment for ASAAL acknowledging the respect we received from Senator Schumer. Everyone agreed that history was made.
