MENG ISSUES STATEMENT DENOUNCING ANTI-MUSLIM MARCHES PLANNED ACROSS THE COUNTRY THIS WEEKEND

Grace Meng (D-NY) today issued the following statement denouncing the anti-Muslim marches that are scheduled to take place across the country this weekend. “I denounce the anti-Muslim marches that are scheduled to take place across the country this weekend, and I proudly stand in solidarity with the American Muslim community in this climate of increased Islamophobia. These planned demonstrations are nothing more than attempts to fan the flames of hate, spread misinformation, and intensify anti-Muslim sentiment. I urge all Americans to join me in condemning this intolerance and bigotry. Ramadan is a time for Muslims to reconnect with their spirituality and their communities. It is unacceptable for any community to feel unsafe practicing their faith, but especially so during times of deep spiritual significance. That is why after the President signed the first travel ban, I immediately introduced legislation to stop it from moving forward. My ‘No Funds for Unconstitutional Executive Orders Act’ would prohibit any funds made available by Congress from being used to enforce the President’s travel ban.
