National Mourning Day observed at Bangladesh Consulate General in New York
UsaNewsOnline.Com, New York : Bangladesh Consulate General in New York observed the National Mourning Day with due solemnity on 15 August, 2017, marking 42nd martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The day started in the morning with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast at the Chancery by Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan,ndc, Consul General of
Bangladesh. In the evening, a discussion-cum-special prayer was held at the Auditorium. The programme began with observance of one minute silence as a mark of respect for the Father of theNation and other martyrs. A documentary on the glorious life of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was screened. This followed reading out of the messages of the HonorablePresident,
Honorable Prime Minister, Honorable Foreign Minister and Honorable State Minister for Foreign Affairs on this occasion. In the discussion meeting, the speakers touched on the glorious life and achievements of the Father of the Nation. They urged all to work together to build a prosperous Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Mr. Md.
Zahid Ahsan Russel,MP, Honorable Chairman, Standing Committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Advocate Md. Abu Zahir, MP, Habiganj-3, Honorable Member, Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and H.E. Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Ambassador and
PermanentRepresentative of Bangladesh to UN, among others, were present and spoke at the event. In his remarks, Consul General Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan,ndc paid glowing tribute to Bangabandhu and
narrated his active involvement throughout his life for just causes of Bangalis. In this regard, he urged the expatriate Bangladeshi nationals to work unitedly for the implementation of a Digital Bangladesh as envisioned by the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Ekushey Padak Recipient drama personality Mr. Jamaluddin Hussain, popular Ganasangeet singer Fakir Alamgir, freedom fighters, members of Bangladesh community, leaders and representatives from political, cultural & social organizations,
members of media, officials from Consulate General and Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to UN, among others, were present. A special prayer was offered for the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, other martyrs of the family and for the prosperity of the country. The programme ended with distribution of Tabarak among the guests.
