National Mourning day Observed at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC
USA NEWS: Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C. observed the National Mourning Day on 15 August,2010, marking 35th martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman paying due homage. [nggallery id=14] The day started with the hoisting of the national flag at a half-mast on the Chancery premise and also at the Bangladesh House. In the afternoon, the Embassy arranged a discussion-cum-doa mahfil at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the Embassy. The programme began with reading out of the messages of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Foreign Minister on this occasion. In the discussion meeting, the speakers, which included Embassy officers and community leaders, touched on the glorious life and achievements of the Father of the Nation. They called upon to work together to build a prosperous Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In his speech, Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan, Deputy Chief of the Mission & CDA a.i. paid glowing tributes to Bangabandhu and urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to work unitedly for the implementation of a Digital Bangladesh as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Embassy officials, members of Bangladesh community, representatives from cultural & social organizations, among others, were also present. A special prayer was offered and one minute silence was observed for the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs. The program ended with an Iftar attended by a large number of Bangladesh Nationals & Embassy officials.
