The Hague : Mr. Johan van den Berg, Country Coordinator Nepal and Bangladesh and Ms. Murielle Klier-van der Pol, Project Officer of PUM (a Dutch enterprise providing expert services for entrepreneurs) called on Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal to discuss PUM’s activities and their desire to expand their work in Bangladesh in a substantial way. For 38 years, PUM has worked with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries, helping to educate entrepreneurs and steer them to a path of sustainable development. In the year 2015, PUM has helped 1710 businesses in 73 countries. For details, the following website could be explored: www.pum.nl.

During the meeting, Mr. Johan expressed their preparedness to significantly expand their service in Bangladesh ranging from any sector like ICT, dairy processing and products, leather industry and consumer goods, timber processing, animal feed production, poultry farming, vegetable and fruits, fisheries, water purification and waste water management, bakery and bread, vegetable and edible oil, healthcare, food processing, chemical processing, communication and marketing consultancy, banking and micro-finance, arts and crafts to horticulture etc. PUM, over the years, has helped a good number of Bangladeshi SMEs and businesses to significantly expand their businesses in a sustainable way.

Mr. Johan handed over a list of PUM Representatives in Bangladesh and explained how they collect applications from competent SMEs. The services of PUM are free of cost. Rather, at times, PUM also makes voluntary donations to qualified businesses based on the potential and performances.

Ambassador Belal assured that the Embassy will henceforth closely coordinate with the PUM Representatives in Bangladesh so that more support from PUM could be directed towards Bangladesh. Ambassador particularly requested Mr. Johan to help SMEs in Bangladesh to gain from unparallel Dutch experiences in sectors like dairy farming, green house technology, floriculture, agriculture etc. Bangladesh Embassy in the Netherlands do hereby urged Bangladeshi SMEs to explore their partnership to contact PUM Representatives in Bangladesh and make application for expert service and assistance from the Netherlands.

Mr. Istiaque Uddin Ahmed, Second Secretary and Head of Chancery of this Embassy may also be contacted for any issues in this regard.
