By Nicholas Rizzi, NEW YORK CITY — Tolls to cross bridges and tunnels across the city will rise this Sunday, according to the MTA.

The price hikes will affect the Verrazano, Robert F. Kennedy, Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges, as well as the Midtown and Brooklyn-Battery tunnels.

The cost to cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will climb from $16 to $17 for drivers paying cash, and from $11.08 to $11.52 for drivers with an E-ZPass, as part of the MTA's latest fare and toll hikes.

Cash tolls for the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, Whitestone Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge, Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and Queens Midtown Tunnel will increase from $8 to $8.50 for drivers paying cash and $5.54 to $5.76 for those with an E-ZPass.

The Henry Hudson Bridge will increase to $6 cash, up from $5.50, and $2.64 with an E-ZPass, up from $2.54.

The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge and Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge will have their tolls increase to $4.25 cash and $2.16 E-ZPass. The discounts for Rockaway residents using both spans will also increase from $1.41 to $1.93.

The rebate program for Staten Island residents who regularly cross the Verrazano Bridge will increase as well, from $5.50 to $5.74, a spokesman for the MTA said.

The toll relief program for drivers who cross the bridge more than 10 times a month started in 2014 will increase to $5.74 under the new plan.

Drivers who cross the bridge up to two times a month will have their toll increase to $6.84, up from $6.60, and $6.48 if they cross more than three times, up from $6.24, but will be rebated the money to bring it down to $5.74, the spokesman said.

The state Assembly budget proposal released this week could drive the price back down to $5.50 because of an additional $11.95 million kicked in to the plan, Assemblyman Michael Cusick said.

Councilman Vincent Gentile, who represents Bay Ridge, started a petition this week and wrote a letter to the MTA to extend the discount programs to people who live near the Brooklyn side of the bridge.

"I am calling on them to play fair once and for all by instituting the same toll discount plan given to Staten Islanders to Brooklynites who live in the surrounding ZIP codes on the Brooklyn side of the bridge," Gentile said in a video posted on Monday.

Gentile's plan would also extend the discount program to all Brooklyn residents who cross the bridge more than 10 times a month. dnainfo.com/new-york
