At an unrelated press conference Monday morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the police force would be prepared for Trump’s visit. An NYPD spokesman didn’t immediately return a request for further comment on when exactly the president would be in town.
“The NYPD is the most expert police force on earth in terms of handling visits by an American president,” de Blasio said at a Monday morning press conference at Borough Hall in Downtown Brooklyn, adding that he was thankful the Trump had largely steered cleared of the five boroughs since becoming president.
“To his credit he kept his time here very limited and the disruption very limited,” de Blasio said. “So hopefully it will be the same this time.”
Trump’s visits to New York City typically cost $300,000 a day, according to NYPD Police Commissioner James O’Neil, though Congress has approved a measure to reimburse the NYPD for its expenses.
Trump told Fox News in April that he was hesitant to visit his hometown because he didn’t like to see the streets close down.
