US Country Report on Terrorism lauds achievements of Bangladesh

“Bangladesh continued to increase its domestic capacity as well as its international and regional counterterrorism cooperation in 2010, working with its partners to increase information sharing and Bangladeshi capacity development. Bangladesh is becoming a positive regional example for its forward-leaning stance and willingness to cooperate both bilaterally and multilaterally.”-This was stated  in the latest(2010) country report on terrorism released on 18 August,2011 by the  US Department of State Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism.

The report is generally appreciative of the present government’s commitment and initiatives to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations. The report specifically mentioned that the Awami League-led government has been committed to combating domestic and transnational terrorist groups since coming into power in January 2009.  Bangladesh continued improving its counterterrorism cooperation with its international partners in 2010-it noted.   The report  also touched on present government’s steps to nab and bring  the militant elements to justice. It  mentioned about Government’s denial of the  terrorist groups’ freedom of movement, increased counterterrorism policing, and other law enforcement efforts.

It may be mentioned here that the  annual Congressionally mandated report(2010) provides an assessment of trends and events in international terrorism from January 1 to December 31 of the preceding year (2010).Press Release
