US Lauds Bangladesh’s achievements on the issues of Trafficking in Persons

USA NEWS: As one of the major manpower exporting countries, the issue of trafficking in persons remains a priority of the Government of Bangladesh. This was said by Bangladesh Foreign Minister when US Ambassador at large to monitor and combat Trafficking in Persons  Luis CdeBaca called on her at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC. The Foreign Minister said that the Government has undertaken various measures including drafting of an Anti Trafficking Law to address issues pertaining to trafficking which has grown as one of the most lucrative business in the world. With reference to US Trafficking in Persons report 2010, the Foreign Minister said that Bangladesh expects reflection in the report of all the progress made so far. The Foreign Minister mentioned Bangladesh is also actively engaged in Colombo and Abu Dhabi process. Referring to situations obtaining in the manpower receiving countries, Dr. Dipu Moni said that it should also receive required attention so that the situations in the receiving countries improve. Ambassador Luis CdeBaca attached particular importance to the passage of Anti Trafficking Law in Bangladesh which is expected to take place next month. The US Government looks forward to implementation of the law which, the US Ambassador at large said, will substantively contribute to the improvement of the situation. Ambassador CdeBaca assured of due attention to the achievements made by Bangladesh during the preparation of the next TIP report. Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA  Akramul Qader, Director General (Americas), Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  Muhammad Abdul Muhit and Deputy Chief of Mission, Bangladesh Embassy Washington, DC,  Jashim Uddin were also present in the meeting.
