Ambassador Akramul Qader meets Senator John McCain

UsaNewsOnline.com : Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Akramul Qader had a meeting, at the capitol this morning 20 December with Senator John McCain III, an influential member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and apprised him of the obtaining political situation in Bangladesh  highlighting the present Government efforts to bring the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to participate in the National Elections scheduled for January 5, 2014.

The Ambassador detailed  Hon’ble Prime Minister’s offer of dialogue to reach an understanding on composition of the election – time government . The government’s  intention to uphold people’s right to franchise through holding of free and fair elections  in terms of the constitutional provisions was also mentioned.

Senator  John McCain III, inquired about the status of the government before the election, Judicial system and its independence while touching also safety issues of the workers in the garments sector of Bangladesh.

Ambassador  Qader’s  discussion with Senator  McCain  centered round  S. Resolution 318 regarding  “ … the critical need for political reform in Bangladesh …”  recently approved at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
