ASAAL Endorsed New Jersey Senator Jeff Van Drew for Congress at NJ CD 2

UsaNewsOnline.Com, New Jersey : September 6, 2018 the ASAAL NJ Chapter met at Nizam’s II Restaurant, 224 East White Horse Pike, Galloway, NJ 09205 for their membership meet, greet, and endorsement meeting.
The meeting was presided by the Chapter President Farook Hossain and conducted by the Secretary of the Chapter Jay Sodha. The meeting started with a moment of silence led by National Secretary Karim Chowdhury for NJ Chapter Secretary Chittubhai Patel’s sudden death a few months ago. Mr. Chowdhury also announced that there will be a dedication for the Late Mr. Patel for his life long service to organize the unorganized at the 11th National Convention to be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018.

NJ State Senator Jeff Van Drew who is running for Congress from NJ District 2 was the main attraction. If Jeff wins against a Republican incumbent it will be a great victory for ASAAL and for America! Mr. Drew announced that, “he is very thankful for ASAAL endorsement and happily joined ASAAL as an honorary member while making promise to strongly represent the South Asian Community in Congress if elected!

All other candidates who were present and seeking the ASAAL endorsement were Celeste Fernandez, Candidate for Freeholder-at-large and Maureen Leidy, Candidate for Freeholder both from Atlantic County. They spoke and announced that if they are elected in their positions they will always be with ASAAL and with the South Asian Community. The Hon. Caren Fitzpatrick, Freeholder-at-large thanked ASAAL for arranging such an important gathering in her Atlantic County.
National President Maf Misbah Uddin, National Secretary Mohammed Karim Chowdhury, and National Corresponding Secretary Jed Matalon joined ASAAL NJ from New York City. In his speech President Uddin urged, “all South Asians to join the ASAAL movement, as ASAAL is the voice for the voiceless, ASAAL represents the least, the lost, and the last. South Asians are left behind in American politics, where as we lead in the fields of medicine, education, computers, and science in America!”, “We must lead in politics, we must create candidates among us and we must take others as our candidates so long as they include our issues in their agenda; please vote Tuesday, November 6 – the most important election of our life time!”
“As a community we must get involved, get active and participate in American politics whenever possible. We must work harder than others to empower our community”, said National Secretary Karim Chowdhury. “We must build a coalition with African Americans, and with Latinos while strengthening the South Asian community”, he added.
Special speaker Javier Soto, Vice President, UNITEHERE Local 54 who said, “as a union on behalf of my local we are happy to work with ASAAL in any project it undertakes in NJ.”

Also present Atlantic County Democratic Party Chair Mike Sullivan who spoke and said, “I have confidence in ASAAL and in South Asians in Atlantic County, they are active and they growing. I hope they will more become active in the party.”
The following local leaders like Abdur Rafiq, Tariq Mahmoud, Anzum Miah, Kachan Ball, Amit Patel, Charan Singh, Muhammad Ayub, Johirul Islam Babul, Akber Hossain, and Shubrota Chowdhury.
President of the Chapter Farook Hossain welcomed and thanked everyone for coming out and invited everyone to volunteer for our endorsed candidates. Secretary Jay Sodha requested all members to join the ASAAL NJ Chapter as very soon they will start phone banking for the endorsed candidates. Over 100 members and guests participated at this meeting and everyone have had rewarding experience with a delicious dinner at the end!
