Michigan State Senate offers tributes to Bangabandhu on his 100th birth anniversary Mujib a beacon light for the world, says the citation

Shamim Ahmad, Washington D.C.: A  Michigan State Senate, USA has offered special tributes to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking the celebration of the 100^th anniversary of his birth.

A letter of citation adopted at the Michigan State Senate Tuesday profoundly commended Bangabandhu’s dedication to his service in the promotion of freedom and democracy in Bangladesh.

“Let it be known that it is with a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the “Founding Father of Bangladesh”, for his service in the promotion of freedom and democracy in Bangladesh,” the citation said.

Remembering the long painstaking struggle of Bangabandhu against the then Pakistani military junta, and his leadership to win the war of independence in 1971, the citation said “Mujib was a beacon of light for Bangladesh, and a worldwide example of enduring hardship and standing for what you believe in.”

“May he long be remembered for his leadership and the legacy he created which has empowered Bangladesh,” reads the citation.

State Senator Paul Wojno, read out the citation. It is signed by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, and State Representative Lori Stone. U.S. Awami League president Siddiqur Rahman, US chapter of Bangabandhu Parishad convener Dr. Md Rabbi Alam, Minister (Consular) of Bangladesh Embassy, Washington, D.C. Mohammad Habibur Rahman, and Michigan Awami League leaders were present on the occasion.
